Film Production Permit

A person who intends to apply for a Film Production Permit to shoot in Ghana should be guided by the following before proceeding to fill this application:

1. Film Production Permits are issued by the National Film Authority Of Ghana under the Development and Classification of Film Act, 2016 (Act 935) to ensure compliance of film production standards within Ghana.

A filmmaker whether local or foreign shall apply for a Film Production Permit for each film production in a form prescribed by the Authority before production commences.

Film Production Permit Fees:
Local Production – Ghc 200
Foreign Production – $100

2. Which Film Productions Require Permit:
Feature Film
Short Film
TV Series
Documentary
Music Video
Television Commercial (Advert)

3. Permits within Permit: Apart from acquiring a permit to film in Ghana, additional requests may be required to shoot at specific or special/closed locations within the country. This is termed as ‘Permits within Permit’. The requirements and fees needed to secure such permits may vary depending on the location.

4. Drone Permit: This is issued by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCCA) in consultation with the National Film Authority (NFA).

Regarding the use of drones for a film production in Ghana , the GCCA requires that the following documents are submitted to aid in the temporary approval process;

a. An application letter stating details of the project, entities involved, RPAS to be used and the project duration.
b. Copy of the contract between the entities involved in the project
c. Insurance Cover
d. Copy of pilot licence if any
e. Bio data page of the passport of the drone pilots and company representatives
f. The completed application forms attached to this email
